Shelley M. Shockley has lit up the Greater Cleveland area for the past 15 years.  A results-oriented professional Shelley has extensive experience in management, special event planning, marketing, public and community relations and writing.


She is a skilled and confident administrator, focused and enthusiastic team player, with analytical and innovative capabilities who is adept at interacting with the public and private sector.

 

Currently, Shelley is the Marketing Manager at Cleveland Public Power, a division of the City of Cleveland's Public Utilities department. Shelley plays an intricate role in promoting the municipally owned electric company and developing a long-term strategic marketing plan. She illuminates her creativity through the development of creative advertising and marketing of the services to the Greater Cleveland consumers.
 

A native Clevelander, Shelley began her professional career as the Clerk of Council for the City of East Cleveland before moving to her first love – writing, as a reporter and editor for the Cleveland Call & Post Newspaper. She also served as the Managing Editor for Cleveland Life Newspaper before embarking on her own, as the Editor & Publisher of We Are Family a newsmagazine for families.
 

Shelley returned to public service as a Communications Officer for Cleveland City Council a position she held before joining the administration of Mayor Jane L. Campbell as an Assistant Press Secretary and Marketing Manager for the Department of Port Control.
 

Shelley enriches the lives of all through her work in outreach programs targeted to the Greater Cleveland community by developing activities that shape the minds and hearts of many. Her genuine interest in people makes her a special individual. While much of her work does not grab headlines, it does earn respect from those who work with her. She is dedicated, committed, and has extraordinary tenacity. She displays her courage and integrity. She has a sustained record of accomplishment. She has a passion for children and throughout her career she has volunteered to help further the growth of Cleveland area students. As a member of the Cleveland Chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists she worked for a number of years with honing the skills of Cleveland area students pursuing careers in journalism. With this passion of communications Shelley went a step further and introduced programming for teens at Cleveland Talk Radio Training Consortium, (CTRTC) heard on 1490 AM. She was committed to empowering the minority community and teaching the skills of radio broadcasting through communications; creating a voice for youth to make a difference throughout Greater Cleveland communities. She also volunteered with the Lake Erie Council of the Girl Scouts as a Troop Leader in East Cleveland and regularly spends time nurturing her nieces, nephews and godchildren.
 

Shelley is a freelance writer and graphic designer; for over 6 years she did the "RIGHTS" thing with the Cleveland Branch NAACP serving as the graphic designer and freelance writer for two newsletters "Cleveland NAACP: Doing the RIGHTS Thing" that won first and second place for four consecutive years; noted as the "most interesting and creative outreach vehicle produced" by a Branch at the National NAACP convention.
 

In her free time she enjoys writing, photography, knitting, traveling and spending time with her husband, Keith Rutledge.
 

Many people dream of worthy accomplishments, Shelley stays awake and does them!
